In a decisive move that underscores its commitment to diversifying energy sources, TotalEnergies has secured a 28.3% stake in the Bujagali hydropower plant in Uganda by acquiring Norwegian energy firm SN Power. This acquisition not only solidifies TotalEnergies' position as a primary player in Uganda's oil sector but also marks a significant step in advancing renewable energy initiatives across the region.
Powering Uganda’s Future Through Renewable Energy
The Bujagali hydropower plant, capable of generating 250MW, is pivotal to Uganda’s energy landscape, accounting for approximately 25% of the country's peak electricity requirements. This strategic investment enables TotalEnergies to leverage its operations in oil and gas exploration within the Albertine region while enhancing its renewable energy portfolio. The significance of such investments cannot be understated, especially as countries navigate the challenges of climate change and energy shortages.
